Keynote Speaker I

Dr Wang Qiyun
Nanyang Technological University, Singapore

Topic: Social Networking Sites for Teaching and Learning: Affordances and Challenges

Dr Wang Qiyun is a tenured associate professor at the Learning Sciences and Technologies Academic Group, National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He got his Master degree from East China Normal University (1993) and Ph.D. from the University of Twente (2001), the Netherlands. He is an international advisory board member of the Asian Journal of Educational Research and Synergy, and a reviewer of several internationally renowned journals. In recent years, he is actively involved in a number of funded research projects about using web 2.0 tools such as weblog and Facebook for teaching and learning, and has published more than 10 first-authored papers on SSCI journals, e.g. British Journal of Educational Technology, Computers & Education, Educational Technology and Society, and Interactive Learning Environments. Two were awarded the most downloaded papers by Routledge in 2010. He has also edited several special issues as a guest editor in Ei-indexed journals.

STIAN HÅKLEV(ºîˬ)

He grew up in Norway, and have also spent significant time working and studying in Italy, Sweden, China, Indonesia and Mexico. His undergraduate degree was in International Development Studies at University of Toronto at Scarborough, during which he spent a year working for CARE International in Indonesia, and my honor¡¯s thesis is about the community library movement in Indonesia.
 He did my MA thesis in the Higher Education Program at OISE, with Dr. Ruth Hayhoe and Dr. Jim Slotta. My thesis focused on the Chinese National Top Level Courses project. After completing the thesis, he have been experimenting with ways of disseminating it in several formats, and through many channels. In September 2010, He began my PhD in the Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning at OISE, with Dr. Jim Slotta. My PhD will focus on how to enable collaborative peer-based learning around Open Educational Resources.
The Peer2Peer University is an attempt to create a platform enabling the collaborative peer-based learning mentioned above. He was one of the original co-founders, and he is now part of the council. He especially focus on coordinating research, supporting course organizers, developing the pedagogical model, and partnerships with other organizations.
He is also  interested in how knowledge production happens across linguistic borders, and in promoting more exchanges between developing countries and the developed countries. One of the aspects of this is Open Access. He is a co-chair of the Open Access sub-committee at OISE. You can find most of my papers and presentations available online.

Dr.Immaculate Kizito Namukasa
Department of Secondary Education, University of Alberta, UofA. Edmonton, Canada.

Dr.Immaculate Kizito Namukasa received Doctor of Philosophy, Department of Secondary Education, University of Alberta, UofA. Edmonton, Canada.Master of Science (Mathematics) (partially completed) Makerere University, Uganda and Bachelor of Science in Education, Upper Second (Honors) Makerere University, Uganda.

Her teaching interests are Mathematics education and Research and Assessment courses. She also has received many Academic Honors,such as Canadian Commonwealth Scholarship Plan towards doctoral studies at the University of Alberta. Melba Sadler Graduate Scholarship in Education recognizing academic and scholarly achievement, University of Alberta and Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst Award, towards masters studies at Makerere University, Uganda.
